Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), through the Board of Trustees (MWA), officially launches the process for the Nomination, Screening, and Election of the Rector for the 2021–2026 leadership period. This transparent and accountable election aims to select the best candidate to lead USU toward becoming a world-class university with academic excellence.

The election consists of three stages:

1. Nomination, including promotion, registration, administrative selection, and candidate public presentations.
2. Screening, conducted by the Academic Senate, to shortlist the top three candidates.
3. Final Election, carried out by the Board of Trustees, including the Ministry of Education, to elect the final Rector.

General requirements for rector candidates:

• Indonesian citizenship, in good physical and mental health;
• Holds a Doctoral (Ph.D.) degree;
• Demonstrates integrity, leadership, strong ethics, and higher education managerial experience;
• Free from legal issues and drug abuse.
