MEDAN – USU Public Relations: The Academic Senate of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) has successfully elected eight representatives to serve on the university’s Board of Trustees (MWA) for the 2020–2025 term. The election took place on Friday, January 17, 2020, at the Academic Senate Room in the USU Central Administration Building, and twelve candidates who had previously nominated themselves participated.
The eight elected representatives from the Academic Senate are Prof. Dr. Ir. Darma Bakti, M.Si. (Professor of Agriculture), Dr. Ir. Fahmi, M.T. (Faculty of Engineering), Prof. Dr. H. Hasim Purba, S.H., M.Hum. (Faculty of Law), M. Arifin Nasution, S.Sos., M.Si. (Faculty of Social and Political Sciences), Puspa Melati, S.H., M.Hum. (Faculty of Law), Prof. Dr. Khairina Nasution (Faculty of Cultural Sciences), Prof. Dr. Ir. Johannes Tarigan (Faculty of Engineering), and Prof. Dr. Guslihan Dasatjipta, Sp.A. (Faculty of Medicine). These candidates secured between eight and eleven votes during the selection process.
The results will be submitted to the Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia for official confirmation through a Ministerial Decree, which is expected to be issued within fourteen working days.
Meanwhile, this round did not elect four other candidates, namely Prof. Dr. Eng. Ir. Irvan, M.Si. (Faculty of Engineering), Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yamin, S.H., M.S., C.N. (Faculty of Law), Dr. Mutiara Indah Sari, M.Kes. (Faculty of Medicine), and Prof. Dr. Syafruddin Ilyas, M.Biomed. (Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences).
For context, the USU Board of Trustees consists of 21 members, eight of whom are Academic Senate representatives, nine public figures, and four ex officio members: the Minister of Education and Culture, the Governor of North Sumatra, the Rector of USU, and an alumni representative.
