MEDAN—HUMAS USU: Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) held a Senate Meeting on Monday, September 7, 2020, at the Pancasila Building USU, with the agenda of Election and Appointment of the Board of Trustees (MWA) Members Representing the Community for the 2020–2025 Period. The meeting was conducted both offline and online via Zoom.
The meeting was opened by the Chairperson of the USU Academic Senate and attended by 85 of the total 101 members, fulfilling the quorum requirements as stipulated in Article 6 paragraph (2) of Senate Regulation No. 01 of 2016 regarding the Procedures for Senate Meetings at USU.
Out of the 28 previously shortlisted candidates, one, Asrul Masir Harahap, withdrew his candidacy, leaving 27 candidates for voting. The Chairperson read aloud the list of names, which all participants approved to proceed with the voting. The process was supervised by three appointed witnesses: Drg. Siti Salmiah, Sp.KGA; T. Keizeirina Devi Azwar, SH, CN, M.Hum; and Budi Utomo, SP, MP.
Voting was conducted until 2:00 PM WIB, with all 101 Senate members casting their votes.
The following 10 candidates received the highest votes based on the vote count. They will be proposed to the Minister of Education and Culture for official appointment via a Ministerial Decree:

- Irmansyah Batubara (11 votes)
- Nurmala Kartini Pandjaitan Sjahrir (11 votes)
- Haryadi (10 votes)
- Idham (10 votes)
- Reni Sitawati Siregar (10 votes)
- Abdul Hakim Siagian (9 votes)
- Jaleswari Pramodhawardhani (9 votes)
- Mohammad Abdul Ghani (9 votes)
- Usman Kansong (9 votes)
These 10 names will complement the eight candidates representing the Senate who were previously elected in the Senate Plenary Meeting on January 17, 2020: Guslihan Dasa Tjipta, Darma Bakti, Johannes Tarigan, Hasim Purba, Khairina Nasution, Fahmi, Puspa Melati Hasibuan, and Muhammad Arifin Nasution.
The USU Board of Trustees (MWA) will consist of 21 members, plus three ex officio members: the Minister of Education, the Governor of North Sumatra, and the Rector of USU.
