MEDAN—USU: The Board of Trustees (MWA) of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) officially appointed five Vice Rectors (WR) for the 2016–2021 term. The meeting was held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Monday (07/03/2016) in the MWA Room, Rectorate Building, 3rd Floor.

The USU Rector, Prof. Runtung Sitepu, proposed the five Vice Rectors. “The proposal was accepted without any changes to the list of candidates,” explained MWA Chair, Prof. Todung Mulya Lubis.

The appointed Vice Rectors are as follows:

  1. Professor from the Faculty of Agriculture, Prof. Rosmayati, as Vice Rector I;
  2. Lecturer from the Faculty of Medicine, Dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, as Vice Rector II;
  3. Associate Professor from the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology, Dr. Mahyuddin K.M. Nasution, as Vice Rector III;
  4. Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Bustami Syam, as Vice Rector IV; and
  5. Lecturer from the Faculty of Agriculture, Dr. Luhut Sihombing, as Vice Rector V.

When asked about the inauguration date, Prof. Todung said it had not been decided yet. “We need to adjust the schedule first,” he said. Ideally, the inauguration of the Vice Rectors should have taken place one month after the Rector's inauguration on January 28. However, the five elected Vice Rectors can only begin their duties once officially inaugurated. MWA member Panusunan Pasaribu explained that after this appointment, the board would aim to hold the inauguration next week, depending on the availability of the MWA Chair. “Usually, the inauguration takes place one week after the appointment,” Panusunan noted.

Regarding the delayed schedule, Panusunan emphasized that it would not affect the length of the Vice Rectors’ terms. “The term will remain for five years. Once Prof. Runtung’s term ends, a few days later their (Vice Rectors’) terms will also conclude,” he added. USU Rector, Prof. Runtung Sitepu, expressed hope that the inauguration could be held as soon as possible, given the number of pending activities, particularly regarding implementing the 2016 USU Budget Plan (RKA), which was approved that same day.

“The sooner, the better, so our university activities can proceed,” he said. Prof. Todung also mentioned that besides the Vice Rectors’ appointment, the meeting also included the approval of the 2016 Activity and Budget Plan and a discussion on the Audit Committee’s term of service. However, the latter could not be discussed due to time constraints.

Members of the Board of Trustees, Academic Senate representatives, and the Ministry of Research, Technology, and Higher Education, represented by Patdono Suwignjo from the Directorate General of Institutional Science and Higher Education Technology, along with a representative from the Governor of North Sumatra, attended the meeting. However, some MWA members were absent: Tina Bingei, Timin Bingei, and Chairul Muluk.
