"Now, it’s time for foreign lecturers and students to come to USU. Those who teach here for one semester will stay at the guest house free of charge. We are now ready to welcome them, as we have facilities that meet international standards.”

MEDAN – USU PR: The Rector of Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU), Prof. Dr. Runtung Sitepu, S.H., M.Hum., officially inaugurated the use of the USU International Guest House located on Jalan Universitas, Padang Bulan Campus, Medan, on Wednesday (09/09/2020)—Secretary of USU’s Board of Trustees (MWA), Prof. Dr. Guslihan Dasatjipta, Sp. A(K) joined the event, which included a ceremonial cutting of a jasmine flower garland at the entrance and signing a dedication plaque. The Rector stated that the International Guest House has 18 rooms and is a strategic facility to enhance university performance and improve USU’s overall quality. One of its primary purposes is to accommodate foreign lecturers who will teach at USU.

“We’ve previously sent our lecturers abroad to teach, and our students have participated in academic programs at various international universities. It’s time for foreign lecturers and students to come to USU. Those who teach here for one semester will stay at the guest house free of charge. We are now ready to welcome them, as we have facilities that meet international standards,” said Rector Prof. Dr. Runtung Sitepu, S.H., M.Hum., during the inauguration.

According to the Rector, the renovations to the facility are expected to provide adequate services with complete and qualified amenities. “We now have guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms and a swimming pool, and soon we will add a fitness center and a restaurant. It will also function partially as a business entity. We plan to partner with a high-quality café and lease several strategic corners for commercial use,” he added.

However, he continued, the effective use of the International Guest House can only commence once the COVID-19 pandemic is over and the government allows face-to-face lectures again. “Once the situation is safe enough to resume in-person classes, the International Guest House will be utilized as intended,” he emphasized.

On that occasion, the USU Rector inspected the available facilities at the guest house, accompanied by MWA Secretary Prof. Dr. Guslihan Dasatjipta, Sp. A(K); Vice Rector II Prof. Dr. dr. Muhammad Fidel Ganis Siregar, M.Ked(OG), Sp.OG(K); Vice Rector III Prof. Drs. Mahyuddin K.M. Nasution, M.I.T., Ph.D.; Vice Rector IV Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustami Syam, M.S.M.E.; and Vice Rector V Ir.
