MEDAN-USU PR: Universitas Sumatera Utara will host the 2020 UI GreenMetric Workshop for the Western Indonesia Region, which will be held on February 20–21, 2020, in the IMT-GT Room, 2nd floor of the USU Central Administration Bureau Building, Medan. The event will be attended by 100 participants from outside Universitas Sumatera Utara, mainly delegates from 46 public and private universities in North Sumatra and other regions across Indonesia, along with representatives from the North Sumatra Provincial Government, city, and district governments. The UI GreenMetric Workshop is planned to be officially opened by USU Rector Prof. Dr. Runtung Sitepu, S.H., M.Hum., and will feature two keynote speakers: Prof. Dr. Ir. Tommy Ilyas, M.Eng. (Expert Team Member of UI GreenMetric, Universitas Indonesia) presenting “Civil Engineering, Green Campus, and Sustainability” and Prof. Dr. Ir. Abdul Rauf, M.P. (Professor at the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Sumatera Utara), who will present “Arboretum Supporting Education, Environment, and Rare Plant Germplasm Resources.”
Several other speakers will also be featured, including Prof. Riri Fitri Sari, M.Sc., M.M. (Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, Universitas Indonesia) with a presentation titled “UI GreenMetric Indicators and Questionnaire”; Junaidi, M.A. (Vice Chairperson of UI GreenMetric, Universitas Indonesia) presenting “Explanation of UI GreenMetric and the UI GreenMetric World University Ranking Network.” Other speakers include Prof. Dr. H. Moh. Mukri, M.Ag. (Rector of Universitas Islam Negeri Raden Intan Lampung) With “Management of Planning and Infrastructure at UIN Raden Intan Lampung”, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bustami Syam, M.S.M.E. (Vice Rector IV, Universitas Sumatera Utara), presenting “Energy and Climate Change Management at Universitas Sumatera Utara”, Prof. Dr. Karomani, M.Si. (Rector of Universitas Lampung) With “Waste Management at Universitas Lampung”; Prof. Dr. Syafsir Akhlus, M.Sc. (Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji) presenting “Water Management at Universitas Maritim Raja Ali Haji”; Prof. Dr. Ir. H. Aras Mulyadi (Rector of Universitas Riau) delivering “Transportation Management at Universitas Riau”; and Dr. Yossafra, M.Eng.Sc. (Vice Director II of Postgraduate Studies, Universitas Andalas) with a presentation titled “Education Management at Andalas University.”
The UI GreenMetric World University Ranking is a global university ranking that promotes campus sustainability efforts, initiated by Universitas Indonesia (UI) in 2010. One of the goals of this ranking is to inform governments, local and international environmental bodies, and the public about sustainable development programs at universities. The ranking is based on the following indicators: (a) Setting and Infrastructure, (b) Energy and Climate Change, (c) Waste, (d) Water, (e) Transportation, and (f) Education and Research. In 2018, a total of 719 universities from 81 countries around the world participated in this program.
In the assessment announced in December 2019, Universitas Sumatera Utara (USU) ranked 14th in Indonesia and 250th globally. Implementing this workshop is expected to enhance commitment and broaden the participation of higher education institutions in green campus management. The workshop will include presentations on the 2020 UI GreenMetric Program, including training on completing the UI GreenMetric questionnaire. The seminar session will discuss sustainable environmental management issues in universities. This activity is also expected to increase participants' knowledge and contribute to Indonesia's efforts to achieve the 2030 SDGs. (PR)
